Problem with Ethernet on LapTop

This is my first time installing anything on a Dell Lap Top. I am working on a Dell Inspiron 600m and I just formatted the HD and installed XP Pro which was NOT from Dell. The lap top comes with XP home. I just wanted to install XP pro which is mine. Anyway, I installed that and MSSP2 and put my cable in the Ethernet port but I get no internet. So I looked in the device manager it says there is no Ethernet adapter installed. I dont understand why XP didnt install the drivers like it usually does on my Desktop machines. Maybe its because it is a dell? But if that is the case, I dont have any ethernet driver software from dell that I can put on this machine. The only think I can think of is using the XP Home restore installation CD from Dell. But I dont want to do that since I want XP.

Is this usual with Dell machines or am I missing something? Please help

I forgot to say that the main reason I am reinstalling this is that I was getting blue screen everytime on boot up. Maybe my Ethernet controller died somehow...

Laptop reinstalls can be very hardware specific. You have not restored the Dell drivers. They do not come on standard XP Home or Pro. Download and install Dell's drivers for your model - better yet - use the Restore CD that came with it.

The Ethernet is probably not the only thing that is not working.

The restore disk didnt work but I got the problem fixed when I went to Dell.com and downloaded specific drivers. Dell sucks.
