First I have done what Epson has told me to do which to let WinME install its own driver for this printer (is seen by WinME and had... diagnostics working). But I cannot get the darn thing to print... Every time I go to print I get an error (ep4????.exe error cannot spool print job??? I cant remember the whole message its on my parents computer at their house...) I have researched all of Epson`s site and cannot find this problem anywhere... Also I have tried changing settings in the bios, different drivers everything??? The printer was printing perfect with a Win98SE system (old Pent 166mmx). Now with a new Tbird 1Ghz, ECS K7VCA, 256megs, 40gig IBM... yada yada... and WinME it wont do Ka Ka...? Any ideas??? Anyone???

Thanks in advance... :)

I have an Epson 500 still-very decent printer.

Don't use WinME, only tried it as an experiment, so have no concrete idea how to help. Perhaps if you get me the exact error message I could venture a better guess.

I did have Win2k on my system for a while. This printer not supported by Epson under Win2k & their website said they had no intention of releasing Win2k drivers for it. It did work fine, however, with std. Win2k drivers, I just lost all the bi-directional stuff that comes with teh Epson software.

I would do the following:
1) Uninstall the printer COMPLETELY and reinstall it under Win2k.

2) reformat and go to Win98se-Epson 600 has always worked fine there & I feel that is a superior OS anyway.

3) I assume that you have Via's 4 in 1 drivers installed-required for Ahtlons, if your're coming from an Intel viewpoint its easy to overlook this.

I own an epson color 600.

1) boot in windowsME, REMOVE the printer and parallel ports from their respective spots in windows, reboot.
2) in your computers bios SET the parallel printer port to STANDARD or SPP.
3) let windows redetect the parallel port, reboot
4) turn printer on, let windows detect the printer and install its standard printer driver. Now if the printer has both black and color ink it should work.

ps I use windows 98 se and have used these methods to troubleshoot usually works too. :-D I just have to use an installation for drivers.

I own a Epson 600,it`s working great with my T-bird 900mhz(Win98 os1)using MSI K7T Pro board, you seem to have all the right advice, btw I`m using the Epson 600 drivers, anyway all I can think of is check your printer cable is connected & working ok.
