the problem with the mother board is that it will not boot up. the boot sequence starts, but after auto drive detections and memory check the start up stops with a combination of two of these three problems: "CMOS Settings Wrong" or "CMOS Memory Size Wrong," and or "CMOS Battery Low." but because of this error i can not doing anything. Two options appear afterwards. "Press F1 to Run Setup" or "F2 to load default values and continue" but i can not chose either option. There is no error with the keyboard. I can also not update the bios as their web site recommends. Replacing the CMOS battery also does yield any response.

Try completely clearing the CMOS, either with the jumper (if it exists), or by removing the battery for a few minutes. If it still shows the correct time and date, you didn't completely discharge it. If necessary, once the battery is removed, short across the battery terminals (that's what the jumper does). Then, try again.

You could also have a bad CMOS chip, or it could have gotten a bad flash by the manufacturer. If so, it may be RMA time.

Good luck. :)

I had read on amdmb forums a while back that there was quite a few with bad batteries. Might be worth a few bucks to try it out.

Quite a few rev 1 and some rev 3 K7S5a's did leave the factory with bad batteries....... The battery the K7S5a uses is a very common battery, any place that sells watch/hearing aid/button cell batteries will have it.

If this is a brand new board then those error messages WILL appear on the first boot, this is normal. The board has never been booted up before so the CMOS is going to be corrupted :D. Going into setup and saving the settings will make this error message go away.

However you say your keyboard will not work...

Are you using a USB or PS/2 keyboard? You really need to use a PS/2 keyboard as the board defaults to USB Keyboard support being turned off, so a USB keyboard WILL NOT WORK in the BIOS.

Failing that try clearning the CMOS. The Clear CMOS jumper is near the HDD/Power Light headers. It is a RED jumper. Turn the system off, move the red jumper to the other 2 pins on the header, let it sit like this for about 3 minutes. Move the jumper back to its normal position and boot the system. Those error messages WILL appear again. See if F1 or F2 work now....
