Problem with dvd-rom

Ok, my dvd rom sometimes decides not to read the dvd. if i pop in a dvd and click on the drive letter, sometimes it will tell me no disc in drive. other times it will work just fine. I checked and both channels are set to DMA if available.... I put in a pioneer dvd-rom in place of the samsung one that i had in it. the pioneer one worked with no trouble at all. I noticed however that in dma properties, when the pioneer dvd-rom is in, it uses ultra dma mode 2. But when the one that doesnt work (samsung) drive is plugged in, it uses multi-word dma 2. could this be the problem, if not what else could it be? thanks!

so no one can help me with this problem...it looks like ill just facking dump this pieace of sh!t os win xp and go back to the other pieace of sh!t win 98se. but atleaset my dvdrom worked!
