Problem with DVD drive or controller or ???

I put the CD in the driver, and 20-30 seconds later, autoplay ! Why such a lag ? Not bad once it starts, and plays DVD's just fine. This happens under Win2k and XP. It is a generic DVD drive (wil look when I get home for model number). Bad driver ? Slow drive ? Bad drivers ? ????

I am thinking about a new one, and Lite-on sounds OK, but 120ms access ? The Samsung has 90ms and twice the cache (512) and then there is the Plextor. I don;t care about ripping, just quick seek, OK transfer of CD info, and quiet. Any feedback on my problem OR a new CDrom is welcome (don;t want a combo or burner, have three different ones now (2 CD, generic and Plextor and one DVD burner Sony) in other machines.

sorry to say this but my Sony dru510a does the same but the BTC 1008IM doesn't do it and actually has better seek times as well. Tested just this past week.. about the Sony's numbers I am.

Update. Its a "jlms xj-hd166s" and when I search, it says LITEON Drive. So I have seen many people recommend this, but ??? Any suggestions ?

Bump ??? Any input ??? Is LITEON crap or do I have another problem ??
