problem with dual HD's on KT7a. Won't detect properly in Win2k

I have a KT7A with 2 IBM deskstar 75 GXP's. One is a 30 gig, and the other is a 45 gig. The problem is when I installed the 45 gig, the bios see's the drive fine, but when I go into win2k, it detects the drive and tries to install the drive and fails. It allows me to copy files to it from explorer, and even format it, but everytime I boot it detects it and tries to install it again. The problem persists wether I put it as a slave to the 30 gig on the same channel, or on its own channel. I even tried manually installing the driver from the device manager (drive just shows up as 'disk drive' with the yellow ! next to it)

anybody ever run across a problem like this?
