Problem with DTV converter box

I hooked up a DTV box for a family member and when you first turn it on the color is really messed up like its too saturated or something. It seems to go away after a minute or so but then after that the picture has a weird type of flicker or something. I played with the antenna and it doesn't affect the picture. Its a pretty old Magnavox tv from the late 80's and the DTV converter box is also a Magnavox. I'd suspect the TV is the culprit but wonder if the converter box is causing the problem. Has anyone else ever seen this problem? What type of experience have you had with these converters? The picture is great otherwise, other than the aforementioned issues.

I've used many brands of DTV converters and never seen any glaring issues. Some are better than others in my opinion and the Magnavox is not my favorite of the bunch.

Are you using the composite or the RF connection? If you can, can you try to use the other connection method? In addition, test it on another TV.

Ok thanks, I'll try those things. I'm using the RF input as there is no composite. Out of curiosity, would you tell me what your favorite DTV converter box is and why, if applicable?

My apologies for not getting back with you sooner...

My favorite NORMAL DTV box would be:

MY favorite higher end box would be the DTVpal by Echostar/dish network.

The first suggested box is simply of higher quality than I have seen other boxes be. It has a metal casing, it had front panel buttons for power and changing the channel and I felt the menu system was better.

The second is best because it has a on screen display menu for navigating channels and has VCR timers if recording shows is still important to you.
