I recently built a new system, using the Abit KR7A motherboard, and windows xp. Now when I boot up on my computer and the scsi card is detecting devices, it takes about 5 minutes time where as before it took maybe 30 seconds. There is only 1 device on this chain, which is a Yamaha 4x2x6.
I have tried switching PCI slots and doing it with no devices attached to the card, each time with the same problem. I have also looking on diamonds site for support, which seemed basically nonexistent.

Thanks

Edit :
I also have another unrelated problem. Sometimes when copying files off of certain cds I will recieve the following message " Cannot Copy (filenamehere): Data Error (cyclic redundancy check). The cd drive is a Toshiba DVD 4.8x, and the harddrive is a WD 120gb.

Ok another time I tried copying one of the same groups of files instead of Cyclic Redundancy error it gives a "Invalid MS DOS Function". I am not doing anything with dos, just a simple drag and drop from a cd drive to my harddrive. Happens with the same group of different cds and files that give the cyclic redundancy error.

update: I forgot to mention I also recieve I/O errors when installing software off of cds sometimes as well.

even though the Fireport 40 is pretty much obsolete, it has a record as a pretty reliable controller. As long as you are sure your drivers are the latest you can get, try perhaps a different cable, and check for proper termination on the DVD drive itself. It may be a problem with the drive itself, and the OS you are running. What is your OS by the way? Do you have another SCSI CDROM to see if the drive itself is the problem? Other problems like 4 in 1 drivers if it is VIA may cause this, so you may check your motherboard manufacturers site for more info. Also check for updates for the OS as well.

Im running windows xp pro.

I Actually got the fireport fixed and working now, but I am still having the problem with my dvdrom drive, tomorrow I will be trying the cds out on a different drive and see how that works. The wierd thing is I am about 90% positive that the cds will be fine in other peoples computers, just not in mine for some reason...
