Problem with DEP(Data Execution Prevetion)

I have observed that very often I'm getting the message "DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION To help protect your computer, windows has closed this program. Name:Windows Explorer". I get this message when I use windows explorer to browse the files. After I select the message close this message windows explorer crashes or the windows explorer window closes and I get a message Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. It doesnt allow me to browse through the files in Windows Explorer. This happens more often when I'm checking folders which have AVI files in them and also when I try to open AVI files with Windows Media Player Classic, the media player window opens for few seconds and then closes. I'm not able to play AVI files in Windows Media Player. I had run several Antivirus programs and also formatted my HDD but it worked for few days but again its giving the same problem Even after I select the option dont use DEP for following programs and selected Windows Explorer still the problem persists. Please help!

i don't know if you want to do it or not, but you can either turn off DEP or exculde certain programs from DEP's monitoring.

Right click My Computer
Click Properties
Click Advanced tab
Click Settings under Perfomance
Click Data Execution Prevention tab
click the Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:
you click add then browse to the executable for that program.

I thought you could turn it off, but I don't see that option here. Maybe there is another way. I'm not too familiar with it.

edit: guess i should have read your entire thread before i spent that time responding, lol. i see you already excluded it.

If DEP is stepping in that process isn't operating normally. You installed some crap software that's either an explorer plugin (or whatever they call them) or possibly a codec like MrChad said.

Yes I have installed K-lite Codec. Do you think that could be the problem? I'm having tough time browsing through windows Explorer
