Problem with Dell XPS M170 Laptop

It emitted a loud beep and powered down, and the jazzy sidelights were still on but flickering. The on-off switch had no effect. For a while I was trying to figure out how to take the battery out. Then I tried to switch it off and on again and it worked, but....about....a....50th...of...the...speed.

So I've reformatted and re-installed Windows XP and it's taken about 3 hours to complete the basic installation. Should take less than half an hour. It's obviously quite poorly. Oh, and the fans are going full blast. Have been since it happened.

It's a Dell XPS M170 with 2GB RAM, 2.26Ghz processor, 7800GTX graphics. So I'd expect it to get a bit toasty at times. But is it completely toasted now?
