These pictures that I took pretty much sum it up:

Dell sent me a 2007WFP to replace my 2005FPW. The 2005FPW looks great, but the mounting screws shed their threads the first time I took it down from the wall mount. The 2007WFP is supposed to be the same thing feature-for-feature, with HDCP thrown in for good measure (win!).

Dell called me the second it was delivered. They apparently tracked the shipment and wanted me to approve the replacement monitor. I said I would have to check it out thoroughly first. I believe that Dell wanted to get my approval so they could dump a faulty monitor on me.

When I took it out of the box, I noticed that a brand-new VGA cable was already attached to the display...which was strange. It still had the twist ties, plastic, and caps. The DVI cable was clearly used and put back into a bag in the package. I didn't get a chance to thoroughly test it for a few days. Though I still haven't looked closely, I don't think there are any dead or stuck pixels. I connected a PS3 through HDMI->DVI and it worked well. I connected a PC through both DVI and VGA and tested the native resolution. For the moment that the PS3 was connected through S-Video while changing the video settings, I did not notice anything wrong.

The Nintendo Wii is connected through composite...and looks HORRIBLE compared with the 2005FPW. The Wii Shop channel is worst, but other things are noticeable such as the +/- icons on the main menu seeming to disappear briefly when you click on them. The monitor appears to be having problems with grey. I can't connect the Wii to any of the other inputs, so I can't say conclusively that none of the others have the problem. The PS3 connected through S-Video has a very different menu, with colors that would not show the same way.

I tried resetting to factory defaults. I tried changing color modes. I tried changing aspect settings (hoping that 1:1 would bypass the scaler chip). When I decreased the brightness, grey actually got BRIGHTER and started to look like a negative image.

It's a long shot...but do any of you fellow nerds have a Dell UltraSharp 2007WFP and a Nintendo Wii to test with and tell me if this is a faulty monitor?

Thanks!

Take your tinfoil hat off and read your warranty. You probably have a refurb. If there's a problem call them back and get another exchange. The time it would have taken to talk to someone who actually has an ability to do something about this is probably less than it took you to write your post.

Of course it's supposedly a "refurb". I know that. I hesitate to call it "refurbished", because it apparently was not. Dell simply hoped that I wouldn't notice the problem. They probably hoped that I would not use the composite input. The problem is so severe, I have no doubt that it's why the original owner returned it.

When you're done being a smarty-pants, maybe you will allow me to explain that I already called Dell back a few times and left messages; and have not heard back from Dell. Regarding this case, I have been instructed several times to call a specific number and enter a specific extension, which always leads to a voicemail box that is specifically linked to the case #. It's strange that, after I left the message, Dell has suddenly stopped calling. This is after they've been contacting me 4-5 times per day in the last 3 days.

Still it pisses be off that, these days, "refurbished" actually means "maybe you won't notice".

I just want to know if this is a problem with the model or a problem with this specific unit.
