basic specs:

1.3ghz Pentium M
256mb DDR
30GB HDD
Win XP home

Ok, my sister-in-law has been having some recent troubles with her Dell 500m laptop. She had a few random reboots and physical memory dumps which is enough to scare anyone who is not super comfortable with computers out of their mind. Now when the machine starts up, the is a long error message bascially stating that drive 0 is not operating within normal parameters so you should call dell for a replacement. Press F1 to boot into windows.

Pressing F1 results in a semingly normal boot, though the comp does take a while to load. All virus scans come out 0 and I ran a full checkdisk with no errors found. I backed up all her data on my second PC so now I am free to do a reformat and reisntall or whatever else needs to be done.

What I am looking for are any ideas before we call up Dell and ask for a new HDD. Anyone have a similar problem in the past? Know any "easy" fixes? Thanks for any replies

Thats strange. I would get that drive replaced for sure. Not worth risking your data.

This is pretty much what I figured which is why I backed everything up. I just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas before I called up Dell
