problem with dell 15" LCD

I bought a refurbished LCD with their refurb deal for $199. Now, I've never had an LCD so maybe I'm missing something but when I turn it on, I get a picture for 5 seconds that's very nice/crisp then the backlight goes out. If i turn it off and on it comes up only for a brief second and goes back out. If i switch it off for an hour it will come on for maybe 10 seconds or so.

When it comes on its crisp but it goes out and I can barely see what's on the screen (or that it's on.. but it is).. power up self check is dim aswell and nothing is 'reporting' a problem on it.. anyone have any ideas?
 
My friend just bought a Viewsonic 15 inch lcd, and it stays the same from turn on to turn off. I'm no expert in lcds, but I'd say that if you find that the clarity isn't good (or changes after you turn it on for a couple of seconds), then the backlight might be faulty. But like I said, I dont have extensive experience with lcds.
 
well i called them and after 2.5 hours i finally got it settled.. they're gonna overnight me a replacement..
