Problem with deal that went wrong

My friend recently had a deal go sour and is now kind of in a odd spot. Here's basically what happened:

he sold a Nokia 8800 to some guy in california. Guy paypals money and my friend sends phone. Then the guys contacts him and says one of the buttons is sticky/faulty and wants a full refund. My friend agrees but gives the guy his college address since he's going there in the week. So then the guy contacts paypal and starts a dispute without contacting my friend first, saying my friend is requesting the item be returned to an address different than the one listed on paypal. So paypal then sends my friend a notice but he didn't notice it until the response time is up for him to respond. My friend contacts paypal, paypal says you're pwned and to pay up. My friend returns the money but now the guy is no longer returning e-mails. And he has not returned the phone. it's been about a month since my friend returned the money

is there anything that can be done? he has the name and address of the buyer. it's quite an expensive phone so a decent amount of money is involved. anyone want to make a house call?
 
your friend was involved ina transaction where he knew the other party wasnt happy and he didnt check his email for how long? its not like paypal gives you 2 hours to respond... as ^ said, lesson learned..

yeap as the others said he screwed the pooch.

he had plenty of time to contact payscam and did not. can't feel sorry fo him.

I have to agree with the others. You get a long time to respond to stuff with paypal. If he waited too long that's his own fault. How would you feel if you were the other guy, with the defective phone?
