Problem with D-Link 604

I have a D-Link 604 ethernet router sharing an internet connection. Now my ISP (Netvision) uses a VPN connection with the PPTP protocol. It caused me a lot of grief until
i got it to work but once i did, it worked fine. What sometimes happens is that the internet
connection is simply lost. I go to the config page in the browser and go to status and it says: "PPTP connecting" and all other stuff like defualt gateway,ip address,
WAN address, and so on are blank. what i do to fix this is go to HOME, to WAN, then change connection type to Dynamic IP. Then i use CMD to renew my ip. I go back to the Router config panel and go to Status. Now it says DHCP client and my IP address. Then i go back to the WAN and choose PPTP. Then i renew my ip and everything works. Thing is, why is this happening? Sometimes i go for day without this issue. Sometimes i need to do it several times an hour. Tech support was no good since anytime you try to explain your situation with the router, they refuse to help since i didn't buy the router from the company. Is this the prob? Can someone find some stupid mistake i am making? I appreciate all your help. Thnx.
