Problem with Connection

I've been having a problem with my connection. I used to use a Linksys router and a Motorola, Optimum online modem with splitter but I my connection was so unstable I could barely do anything. Now Ive taken out the router and attached the modem to a single line and I still get these problems.

Also now my computer is also not communicating with the modem. All the lights are on and the modem is fine butMy comp cant connect to the internet. It keeps saying trying to aquire network adress but never works. Ive reset the network but its only temporary and it quits in a few minuets. What should I do?
 
If a computer does not work directly with a Modem it might be a good idea to call the ISP.
