Problem with configuring WPA on my Linksys G router.

I have a WRT54G Linksys 54mb G router and a WPC54G PCMCIA laptop G wireless card. I can run WEP all day with no problems but can't get WPA working. I have XP home on the toshiba laptop, initially they said I didn't have the WPA batch files so I updated the laptop to SP2. Still doesn't work. What it does is it will connect for about 2 seconds then stay disconnected for about 15 seconds then connects for another 2 seconds and repeats this. Kinda acts like it sees the network but its not getting past the security but keeps trying. The SSID and key are the same on the router and the card. So why the hell isn't this working, anything I need to check.

Toshiba laptop is a 1.4Ghz P4 with 256mb ram running XP home SP2.

Are you using Windows to manage your wireless network connection? Make sure you don't have another 3rd party utility from Linksys fighting with Windows to manage the connection. You also said you have SP2, but is your laptop up to date on all the other patches? Try using another keyphrase on your WRT54G and make sure the firmware is up to date.

Goodluck

I talked to the tech support for 30min today, we were using the linksys software to set it up but we also closed that out and enabled windows to do it for us which gave the same results. I have version 2 of the router which should have pretty new firmware, I can't seem to find any firmware updates on their site. I didn't d/l any windows patches besides SP2, on their site there's a WPA file for XP but its just if you have xp without SP2, SP2 has files for WPA.

Anyone? Linksys at this point is being pretty much worthless since all they're asking me to do is try another wireless computer with the router to see if the WPA feature is bad on the router. I don't really know anyone with a decent laptop. I got this thing at walmart so it would be easy to return if needed, I may just return both the router and card and try another set. Seems they should have a Linksys utility to tell you if its working properly.

So did it work using the Linksys Client software and Not when using Windows or did neither of them work? If neither worked, I'd take the router back to the store and exchange it for one that isn't broken.

what version firmware are you using now?

here is some information about the hacked firmware available which has tons of extra options... link

I'm not sure which version of firmware it is, I know the router is version 2 but I'm not sure if that means the firmware is v2.

The WPA didn't work under the linksys client software or using windows. WEP works fine though. I may just try another router. Should I return the wireless card to or just the router?
