Problem with clicking on external links in IE & Firefox

It seems that recently I've been having trouble clicking on external links with Firefox 2.0.0.11 and Internet Explorer 6. Basically meaning, whenever I go to click on a link in AIM, Xfire, or opening up a *.htm file on my HDD, whether Firefox or IE is my default browser, either will take between 5-30 seconds to open. It seems to get progressively slower after the first couple of links.

Now I can click on any link that pops up a new window and new tabs fine, however, the issue appears only when clicking on a link not inside IE or Firefox. I've uninstalled both my Firewall (Sygate) and my AV software (BitDefender) and still the issue persists. I've also gone through the hassle of COMPLETELY uninstalling, reinstalling Firefox by deleting it from my Documents folders, as well as my Registry Files. But again, the problem happens when IE is my default browser as well.

I've run memtest to over 500% and zero errors. I've also just recently reformatted. I'm running low on options. Anyone? Help? Please!

It does sound like a software problem or a malware infestation.

Try uninstalling Java. I have encountered some strange errors with it, so that might be the culprit.

Tried to no avail. I've also tried a Windows Repair and that didn't do the trick. WTH?!
