Hello,

I recently purchased an Encore 12x dvd kit.
The problem is:

When I use the supplied "PC DVD" application, it crashes windows into a unrecoverable blue screen.

I have contacted Creative Labs' tech support and they were unable to resolve the problem. The only advise that they could give me was to place the DxR3 pci card in an isolated irq range, and to update all my device drivers. ll of which I had already done.

The funny thing now. When I use a software decoder, WinDVD, it runs flawlessly. The only problem is that I cannot use the decoder card, and therefore no TV out.

Has anyone encountered this problem before?

Any ideas or fixes???

Thanks,
EIVigIVIa

Wow, that is the strangest and scariest problem i have ever heard. My Encore 8x kit installed flawlessly. Well if you have tried switching slots with your decoder card and it still doesn't work, has creative ever thinking of sending you a replacement card? Maybe it's defective.

Also, as a last resort, try formmatting and resintalling windows and then also reinstalling your dvd kit/software all over again. That sounds extreme but it's your last resort. I'd just ask them to send you a replacement card.

And don't forget, you are on a warranty plan here. Don't accept the fact that, the card " just doesn't work " cuz hey, you paid your money for a product and it's creative's duty to solve and fix that problem. Don't let them get away with this.

I've seen encore problems when you have both the DVD software from your Video Card AND the encore software installed at the same time. Could that be it?

Hmm good point indeed. DId you have your software dvd player installed before you installed the creative software?

On the other hand, he said he did a fresh install of windows 98se, so i dunno.

Hmm supra max? winmodem. hmm well when i installed my supra max i had a whole slew of memory conflicts and i ended up returning it. But i don't think there shouldn't be any problems. i think you should ask creative you send you another card.

EIVigIVIa - Have you tried going to the Creative Labs website and download updated files for the Dxr3 and PC-DVD encore? I have the CL PC-DVD 6x/DxR3 and when I first installed it and tried to watch a DVD, I would sometimes get a blue screen, but then I downloaded some of the updated drivers from their site and it works fine now.
