Problem With Chieftec Case and Antec PSU

DisinfectedDuck

Okay, I bought a new pc for my brother, parts came today.

The case is a Chieftec Dragon (tower), and the PSU is Antec TruePower 380W.

The problem - when I tried to mount the psu I found that the little screw-holes (on the psu where the screws should go in), these holes were covered by the metal of the case.

Is there anything I can do? Anyone here who has a Chieftec Dragon case??

Help appriciated, I wanna get this fixed today, my brother is kinda bummed about this 🙁

Hmmm... that's odd considering they sell these things together sometimes... you mean the backplate at the back doesn't have holes for the PSU? Like this?

Make sure you're not trying to mount the power supply upside down.

There may also be an adapter plate you need to use. Mine has one.

I`ve a Chieftec Dragon case, mine did have the holes on the back for the PSU screws, you could send it back for a replacement & ask them to send you a Chieftec case with the holes for the PSU screws, only other option is to drill some holes.

Yes, make sure you are not installing the psu upside down or in another incorrect direction. Plus, make sure you push the psu right up against the case. It should fit cuz I have the same case you have, AND I also have a Antec TRUEPOWER ps as well. Mine is 430W.

I had a similar problem at first but found out that I was just positioning it wrong.

Wow i'm stupid!

yep, it was upside-down.

Well, the fact that I thought about asking on Anandtech before trying to flip the godamn thing upside down just shows you guys how much I love you.

Okay, another question for Chieftec Dragon owners - how do you mount the 5.25 and 3.5 drives??

(There's a trick there I can't figure out)

The 5 1/4" drives need to have the supplied rails attached to them. They will then slide into the slots on the rails. You will have to remove the metal plates covering the other slots if you wish to use a 5 1/4" slot other than the top one.

The 3 1/2" drives have removable cages. Use the small handle to unlock the cage and slide it out. Attach the drives to the cage and slide it back in and lock it.

Depending on your case the top 3 1/2" cage (where the floppy drive mounts) may either slide out from the back or the front. Easy way to tell: If your case has a front door, it slides out the back like the other cage. If your case does not have the front door, you must detach the front panel (using the push buttons on the side) and then unscrew the thumbscrews and the cage will slide right out.
