Problem with cd/dvd burner

Hi folks, every time I try to burn anything using itunes, napster, or windows media player it never gets to the burning stage and always ends up freezing the computer up, I have to switch power off and reboot to get going again. I have a plextor 716-sa burner, an AMD 4000+, a DFI Lanparty mobo, and I've upgraded to the new Plextor firmware that I saw on their site. I can play games off the drive just fine, anyone have any ideas?
