I'm running an ECS K7S5a with a Duron 850, a Maxtor 60-gig HD, a vanilla 50X cd-rom on secondary master, and an old Memorex 1622 CD burner on secondary slave.
I own both Adaptec EZ CD Creator 4.05 and Nero 5.5. I've tried installing BOTH of them on this machine, and when either is run for the first time, the program hangs Win2k.
EZ CD Creator pops up its logo, and then nothing happens. If I try to use Task Manager to close the program, it is unable to kill the program. When I try to restart the computer, Windows 2000 takes about 5 minutes to shutdown the computer!
Nero at least gives a message before it hangs: "Scanning SCSI/IDE bus, please wait..." It never completes, and this messages remains on the screen forever. I tried letting it sit for two hours, and it was still there when I came back to the computer.
While BOTH of the programs are hung, presumably attempting to do the same thing, the hard disk light comes on and remains on until the computer is shut off. I can't figure out why the light comes on, because the hard disk is quiet and does not seem to be doing anything.
Any ideas? I couldn't find any Sis-specific IDE drivers out there. If this were a Via-based system, I would have installed the 4-in-1 drivers, but I couldn't find the Sis equivalent.
