Problem with car

Have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am and the hazard turn signal switch(above the radio) has been acting weird for the past few months off and on. It would sometimes stop working but turning the hazard switch on/off a couple times would fix it. Well yesterday when my GF hit her turn signal all was fine then once it clicked off the switch starts click 5 times faster then it should. It does it with the hazard switch off and turn signals are off. But when you go to give a turn signal it works as normal. Then once the turn signal clicks off it starts again.

Well I assumed it was the switch so I bought a brand new replacement today for $20. Well that didn't fix it. What would cause this? It will sometimes pause/stop but once you activate a turn signal or the hazard lights and turn either off it starts again.

Any ideas?

There is no hazard turn signal switch. It is either the hazard switch or a turn signal switch. From your writing you are talking about the hazard switch?

Other then that I have no full idea what you are talking about? What is it doing? Why are you turning the hazard switch on and off?

If you replaced the hazard switch itself, I'd guess it's the relay for the hazard lights, or a short somewhere else in the wiring.

A turn signal light clicking like 5 times faster than normal (the indicator inside the vehicle I'm assuming) usually indicates an open circuit at the bulb, correct? i.e. bulb is out or otherwise incapacitated

yea this is what most cars do. But I was whondering why he is switching the hazard switch on and off if the signal light is flashing to fast?

I concur.

Sorry if how I'm wording it confuses everyone. It is hard to explain. On most cars the clicking noise from the turn signal comes from around the steering wheel on, this car it comes from above the radio which is the hazard on/off switch. Is there a place that hosts video files like fileshack does with image files? That way I can get a little video with my camera.

Maybe there is a relay stuck that goes to the switch I'll check it out. But not sure if that would cause the problem. Reason I am messing with the hazard switch is because thats where to noise is coming from.
