Problem with boot-up -*HELP URGENT!*-

After building a new computer for someone (specs below), I am having a problem with it. On certain games (Final Fantasy 7, UT2K3) and Nero burning rom, it brings up a blue screen (always at the same point in the FF7 game), namely IRQ_LESS_OR_EQUAL (i think) and then States that it is "Beginning dump of memory" and starts to count.

Normally if computer is reset at this point it still works, but was reset the other day from this blue screen and now will not boot into windows, stops at the line after the BIOS "Verifying DMI pool data...Done", and the MSI D-bracket lights indicate 4 green - meaning "Operating system booting".

HELP PLEASE!!!!

Could this be a problem with the Hard drive corrupted because it was reset during the mem dump? (whatever the dump is..?) or some other problem

Appreciate your help.

SYSTEM SPECS:
AMD Athlon XP 1600+
256Mb Generic DDR RAM
MSI K7N420 nForce motherboard with v2.7 BIOS, latest drivers
Maxtor Diamondplus 9 (i think) 30Gb HDD
LG CDRW drive
using Int. nForce GeForce MX 32Mb graphics
using int. nForce MCP-D sound
Generic "Nokia Style" case 350W PSU

try a system repair from the xp cd
next time that happens, go to run>eventvwr> and see if you can find any specifics causing the problem

also it will say a file most likely that has caused the BSOD, maybe if its a video card file it needs to be reinstalled (the drivers)

Ok, i'll try that, problem is it doesnt boot up past BIOS now, its the PSU that came with the case, not an AMD approved i dont think.

check your temperatures?...maybe something's getting too hot in there....my games used to do that until i lowered the temps...and try resetting the cmos for the no boot problem...

it maybe ur power supply...i doubt it's ur ram that's the problem

system repair didnt work...how do i check the PSU?????

I have now re-installed windows and am waiting to see if error re-occurs. Don't think its the PSU cos the temps r ok and it seems to be suddenly doing it, even if pc has only been on for 5 mins, and dumping memory - NOTE it always happens at EXACTLY THE SAME POINT in a program, which suggests its not a power problem.

I'll get back to you all l8er

That power supply may not be the culprit of your problem but it surely isn't helping. What are ok temps? I really think its the memory but I would like to know the temps and if it still does it with an AMD approved power supply. Just because it's 350w doesn't mean it's got plenty of power. I'll put my 330w enermax up against any generico 400w power supply and it will kill it.

I think youd have an easier time if you utilize at least 512mb of RAM fer those games along with that video card... That should get rid of the 'System Memory Dump' problem...
I believe you could also set how much mem your cpu could utilize fer tasks, but your in the market for more memory anyway if you plan on playing the latest games....

he has plenty of memory to run those games.....unless he's using windows9x or ME....he shouldn't have these problems......also, i strongly believe there's a number of background programs running that runs @ startup...get rid of everythin you don't need such as real startup, any form of messenger...any service......chk for spyware and get rid of them via adaware (google search it and u'll find it..)....

i doubt these will help cuz they're longshots but give it a shot....

hope all goes well!

I dont need anymore memory - its on WinXp and it trundles along fine with 256Mb, especially on those games. I have re-formatted and problem does not seem to have re-appeared, going to wait and see tho... fingers crossed.

Think you could be right about the memory btw, it is of make "SMART", will do a full memtest on it sometime

Go to the publisher's site for your game and search there under FAQ or Support or whatever else looks like it might have information on errors caused b faulty programming. Look specifically for updates and patches as this probably what the ultimate solution will be.

Your program is calling a routine and it can't find it and has insufficient error trapping to return an error so it just keeps on looking for something it will never find. That may not be your entire problem, but it is a good logical place to start.

Go to the publisher's site for your game

I have already said that the problem occurs on more than one program but does seem to occur at the same point in each program (e.g indicating that it is a specific problem) so i dont think patches are gonna b the answer somehow

Ok, i have run a "memory benchmark" on the system and done full test at startup, doesn't crash at anytime, but is now randomly repeatedly crashing with the same blue screen if left unattended and resetting itself from the blue screen.

Do you think it really would be power supply? It does a blue screen stating error and THEN resets itself, it not like the power is failing or whatever.

Need to get this fixed quickly so SOME MORE HELP PLEASE!

Thanks
