problem with boot up...can anyone help?

I've got an old 200 sitting under my desk for experimentation purposes so that I don't break anything important on my main rig. I received it from a very reliable friend who says that the machine was booting to the desktop just fine.
However, when I power it up, I get different results:
It eventually stops, leaving me at a C:\ prompt, apparently waiting for me to enter something.

Now, I'm no DOS jockey, and I'm lucky to get a netstat command to work properly from windows.
So does anyone know what I'm supposed to do here?
Thanks.

What OS is supposedly on this system? ... do u get a windows logo? is there a bootdisk in the computer u didnt eject? are there files inside the c: drive? ... maybe it was formatted and sys'd?

type dir c:\

is there a "Windows" folder in the list? If it is there, it would be strange that its not loading on start up.

So go to the windows directory and run Win.exe to see what happens.
If it loads windows like that, then I would check Msdos.sys to see if BootGUI is set to 0, change it to 1 to start windows automatically
