Problem with battlefield 1942?

Whenever I try to use a resolution higher then 800X600 the game just exits to windows while loading a multiplayer map? Its really starting to piss me off. Is anyone else having this same problem?
 
Do you install the retail patch?

I must warn you that the retail game is laggy as hell.
My ping was 29 and it still was too laggy to play.

They need to address this quickly.

Yes I installed the patch. Even when the game is working at 800X600 im not impressed with the ammount of bugs still left in this game. I hope they can address most of these major problems asap.
 
Ok I solved the problem. For all who care you have to edit the file VideoDefault.con in the settings dir and change this option

"renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0" to "renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1"
