Problem with ATITool and X1900XTX

Basically when I load my game profile(750/850) in ATITool(beta 14) and then start a game, the clocks get set down to 666/594 with 2D voltages(shortly after the game begins to load). Well since 666MHz is too much for 2D volts the game will then lock up. Some games I can alt-tab out of while sitting at the main menu and apply the game profile for a second time. Then everything is fine. I know that 594MHz is stock 2D clocks for the memory but where is this 666MHz for the gpu coming from and why is ATITool clocking down? I've already formatted once.

Here's some more info:
ATI Hotkey Poller: Disabled(startup services)
ATITool beta 14
6.4 Catalyst
Sapphire X1900XTX w/maze 4 and ramsinks w/active cooling 750/850 24/7 Stable
XP PRO

I don't think this ever happened with Catalyst 6.3 installed. I wonder if its a problem with the 6.4 cats. Do you guys think I should try ATI Tray tools instead of CCC? Even though the Hotkey poller is disabled I wonder if Overdrive is still messing things up?

Battlefield 2 is really bad about this.

Thanks for the help guys.

I have this problem too... My X1800XT down-clocks it self when I start certain games. Counter Strike Source is fine (keeps my OC) but Age of Empires 3 drops my core to 2D speeds. I am also using ATI Tool beta 14. Maybe we should use a different OCing program?

The only way to run my card overclocked in Age of Empires 3 is to minimize the game and apply the OCd profile again, like what Sentry2 said.

By the way, i have Hotkey poller disabled and don't have CCC installed.

Edit I am also using the 6.4 Catalyst driver, never tried 6.3.

Yeah, for me it's BF2 and AOE3. Overclocker does the same thing so I think it has something to do with 6.4 cats. 6.3's never did this...hmmm

I have no idea if this will make a difference, but....

Try killing all CLI.exe processes in the processes tab.

I don't have CCC installed and still have this problem though Bull Dog.

I'll have to try Catalyst 6.3, see if 6.4 is the problem. What features does 6.4 offer over 6.3?

Edit: I switched back to 6.3 and the problem is gone.

I think Catalyst 6.4 give me a little higher 3DMark Scores and a bit better performance in COD2. That's about it though. I'm going back to 6.3's also. Thanks guys.

Jack

I got the same results with 3D Marks '05, dropped from 10,350 (6.4 Cats) to 10,280 (6.3 Cats). Not a big deal to me though, I'd prefer not having to alt+tab out of my games to set up the right profile everytime.

IMO the Cat 6.4 is one of the worst set of drivers ATi has produced in a long time. I was getting a garbled screen upon boot with them, my video signal would randomly die forcing me to reboot and Planetside was flickering worse than it did with Catalyst 6.3.

Hey Joker, I thought it was just my PC when my video signal would randomly die! Glad to see it's a more wide spread problem.

Yeah if you were using the Cat 6.4's then those are the culprits. I can't believe ATi even released these POS drivers. Hopefully Cat 6.5's fix all of that and maybe even give us some performance gains.

interesting...and all this time i thought my issues with dead signals, flickering, and rainbow garbled crud at bootup was attributed to the overclocks...

Well if you were using Cat 6.4 then it was probably the driver set. I'm amazed ATi released such a shoddy set of drivers since the previous sets worked so well. Guess there's always bound to be a screw up at some point.

For those of you having the same type of issues like the video signal dying on you, garbled up screen upon boot and whatever else, you can report the problem to ATi here: https://support.ati.com/ics/support/def...894&task=knowledge&questionID=737-1713
