Problem with Asus Stryker Extreme

3 months ago I put together a new system using an Asus Stryker Extreme, Intel Core 2 Duo E6850, an Nvidia 8800 GTX, and 2x1GB of ram under Windows XP SP2.

However, over time I've had worsening issues with crashing. These can be BSOD, but usually the computer just freezes. I first used msconfig to make sure that no unneccessary programs were starting up during booting, I then made sure that I had the latest bios and downloaded the latest drivers for Nvidia and tried using Omega drivers. I also tried uninstalling the Nvidia firewall through add/remove programs. None of these actions have worked to solve the problem, in fact my system seems to be crashing more than ever before, twice an hour at times. Does anyone have an idea of what's causing this or what I should do next? Is this defective motherboard, overheating of cpu, or something else?

Thanks for any help.

Oskoui,

Welcome to the Forums!

From your description the first two things that come to mind are overheating & memory problems.
Try removing the cover from the PC case and see if the issue goes away.
Also DL and run Memtest86 to check your memory.

If you are getting BSODs, what do they say?

Thanks for your response.

Well, I rarely get BSODs and haven't had one recently, so I can't tell you what it says. It usually is just a screen lockup that is unresponsive to keyboard commands and requires a hard restart. I removed the side panel of the pc case, but the problem persisted. I doubt that this is a heat issue, since I have a pretty good fan cooling system and don't overclock. I also ran one pass of MemTest and it found no problems with my memory.

Could there be a problem with the memory of the video card? or a problem with my power supply?

Yes, it could be power supply related. Do you have a spare one to try?

Also, is anything being logged into your Event Viewer?
Are you getting minidump files?

I'm not getting anything logged to the Event Viewer during the freeze. Also, there is only one minidump file from the last three days, so I don't think it was produced by the freezing problem that I have.
