Problem with Asus P5Q Pro - Stuck on BIOS splash screen

I have an Asus P5Q Pro and an e8400 overclocked to 3.6 GHz. It's been working fine up until tonight, I was rebooting to run ghost, and I got an overclocking error and it asked me to go into the BIOS. I left it along and did some work, rebooted again and got the same error. I should have put it back to the factory FSB, but I went out and got the newest BIOS, 1501, and updated from a USB key and it completely successfully. Now when I boot it shows the splash screen, but appears to be locked up, the fans run at full speed and the HD light is on for a while, then goes off. I can't hit tab to reveal the details behind the graphic splash screen. I tried disconnecting everything, pulling the RAM and tried a few sticks in just slot B1. I cleared the BIOS. I'm not sure what the issue could be ... I don't think it's the memory or the CPU. I can only think it's a motherboard/BIOS issue. It's supposed to have some kind of failsafe BIOS feature, you put in a bootable disc with the BIOS, but I'm not sure it works enough to do that. Not sure how good a failsafe system is if you have to boot off media, and the BIOS is bad?

Has anyone had similar problems with this board or have some suggestions?

I would say you are right in thinking its a bios issue.I have a p5q deluxe and sometime it also hangs on the boot splash screen every once in a while with express gate turned off .I had to clear my BIOS with the jumper that did not work so i cleared it by removing the battery and letting it sit a while. Then I took out the video card and booted and i let the board error .Then i reinstalled the video card and it allowed me back into the bios screen finally.I then flashed to the latest bios and it has been fine ever since.I know mine is a p5q deluxe but they are similar boards. It took me alot of fiddling but it let me back in.I think by pushing power and reset buttons at the same time it also sets the bios back to the default settings in the bios.

I have seen quite a few P5Q Pro bios issued discussed in the forums in the past months. I believe some must have been send out bad from the manufacture. Newegg was one seller I know. Also a friend of mine had one bad one from newegg and it took him 2 weeks to get it replaced. I would say you should just RMA it asap.
Should not have issues with a new board.

I encountered the same with my IP35-E. This occured when I connected the usb hub of my LCD to my system. It got stuck at the bios splash screen, which I never see otherwise. My solution was to simply not connect the hub since that's the only case when it occurs. I never understood why this happened though but I don't miss those extra usb-slots enough to care.

Jason, I experienced the same problem at what looks to be the exact same time you did, early Monday morning. Creepy. Either way, after searching endlessly all day for a solution, trying to reset my BIOS and removing the battery, it turns out that Scoop is right.

I unplugged all my peripherals and started my comp, and it booted up right away. I have yet to determine which device caused the problem as I have some pressing work to do, but I thought I would post here for you since we had the exact same problem.

Someone want to report this to ASUS, cause the latest BIOS update is obviously the root of this problem.

Thanks for the advice guys, I have it working now. I think I had two issues ... I'm not sure why an overclock to 3.6 at stock voltages that had worked fine for a couple of months would suddenly stop working, but the BIOS didn't actually lock up until I updated it. I had tried resetting the CMOS via the jumper, and pulling the battery and using the jumper, the what finally worked is I pulled the battery and went out for a couple of hours, and when I came back it worked. I guess I'll leave it at stock speeds for a while.
