PROBLEM WITH ASUS P4S533 - CPU Fan Speed Reported Too Low?

Hi All,

Sometimes during POST, I get the message "CPU FAN FAILS" and "Hardware Monitor found an error. Enter Power setup menu for details.", is displayed on the POST screen. I go into Power Setup in BIOS and the realtime CPU fan speed would periodically be displayed in red if the RPM value happens to drop below 1000 (I think that was the threshold). It won't stay there for too long and it may not be a serious problem but it is obviously causing POST to fail if the fan speed happens to be low right at POST. I can set the BIOS to ignore the fan speed but it just doesn't seem like the way to go.

The ASUS FAQ for the P4B (not the P4S, which is what I have) mentions this error message and says to check that the CPU fan is connected to the motherboard. Already checked that and seems to be fine. Besides, the fan speed would not be displayed in realtime in BIOS if it wasn't connected. My BIOS version is 1006, in case anybody was wondering. The P4B FAQ says that the CPU fan speed was not interpreted properly with versions 1001 and 1002.

Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks!

Jack

I have had that same message a couple of times. No idea what causes it though. Only happened when I was overclocking.

Same here. In bios, the low threshold is set at 2200 rpm. If you have a Enermax or similiar PSU, like I do, they generally run below that (1600+/- RPM) until the system heats up.

I'm sure it will be addressed in a future bios update.

BTW, you can go into bios and select to ignore which ever fan is running below threshold.
