This is my first time using a forum. I have just purchased a new computer, as follows

P3 733,GA motherboard, 128 RAM(133), Asus Geforce SDR video, Win98. It seemed to work fine until I placed my old Creative Voodoo 2 card in the system (as I have some Glide only software). As soon as I installed the driver and restarted the computer it locked up in the most purcular way. I could no longer select start menu, or get the screen properties by right clicking the mouse on the desktop.

I could get the system info up by opening my computer icon, which showed no conflicts. However the computer really won't do anything as it hangs performing some kind of task. I also have to shut down by Control-Alt-Del (ie. the start menu is not accessable). When removing the voodoo card again, the problem is no longer there.

Can you run voodoo 2 cards with a Geforce (I can still run the voodoo 2 in my other computer (p2 350 with a matrox g200 - no problems).

Is the problem with a 133mhz system or win 98 or what?

Thanks

hmm, I am not 100% sure what you are saying. Do you mean you want the vodoo card and the geforce card exist in the system at the same time? that can be a big problem.

but if you are saying when you take the Geforce out and then put in the vodoo and all you get are lockups, then try to go to safe mode (F8 when you boot up), and then delete whatever driver you using, and change it to standard VGA. hopefully you can boot up, and make sure all the old drivers are deleted, and then install the vodoo driver.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply. The Voodoo card is actually a 3D graphics accelerator card that still requires another VGA (2d)card to operate (i.e. passthrough card). I had the same card voodoo 2 card connected to my previous computer (P2 350) together with a matrox G200 and never experienced a single proble with it.

oh...... sorry about that.. somehow i had this impression it is a vodoo3.... i should go for another pair of glasses... hmm...

about your problem. I really don't have a good idea. but at least can you go to safe mode and delete the driver for vodoo card so that the system goes back to normal?
