I have an Asus A8N5X with the latest BIOS. The boot sequence is CDROM - HD. No floppy is installed, but when I disable floppy support in BIOS the computer freezes during start up unless I have a USB pen drive installed. This wouldn't be that big a problem except I don't always have a USB drive installed and the system seems to think a floppy is installed and so searches for one whenever I scan the drives.

did you disable the FDD controller or only the floppy, leaving the fdd controller active? Else, I would try to reset the BIOS.

I'll have to check that, I disabled the floppy in BIOS, which I assumed would disable the controller. How would I disable the controller?

All there is in BIOS is an entry on the Main page for "Legacy Diskette A". One option is "disabled" but the manual gives no explanation as to exactly what this means. However, if you do disable A, you lose the option of booting from a removable drive.
