Problem with ASUS A8N Deluxe USB Ports

I need help!

I bought a new PC recently that uses a ASUS A8N Deluxe mobo. It can support up to 10 USB 2.0
I am using a CM Stacker chassis and have connected my 6 front USB 2.0 ports to the 3 USB headers on the mobo, the remaining 4 ports is on the back I/O plate.
Now, whenever I plug in an external drive (runs on it own power from the socket) and start to transfer data (have tried transferring data both ways), I get an error after a few min, about Windows cannot transfer data to H: and then windows auto disconnect the ext hdd for me.

The thing is, the ext HDD is still on, and the "hdd activity" indicator is still on. I had to off the hdd in the end.

I tried both front n back ports, same problems.

Diagnosis anyone?

For the record, my ext HDD works fine on every single comp i used (3 comps to date)

more specs please

mobo, cpu, ram, psu, overclocking, usb device specifics like brand/model brand of drive in it.

Try connecting all the devices to a USB hub, Since the hub will supply most of it's power through an external source. Also I am not sure IF the CM stacker has individual wires like some cases or has them bunched togheter in one or two connections. But I would make sure and tripple check to make sure things are wired correctly. Also try using differant ports to see if the problem persists.

ASUS A8N Deluxe (nforce 4 SLI)
AMD 64 3500+ CPU
2 pieces of 512MB RAM (corsair value pack), CL 2.5
OCZ Powerstream 520W PSU
NO overclocking.

And my ext device is just a 2.5" HDD enclosed in some "brandless casing" that can run on its own power. And it worked on every comp too date...

Check the wireing of the front panel sockets and If that does not work disconnect any front panel headers theat you may have. ALSO try pluging it in directly to the back of the PC using a motherboard USB Port, but only do this after you have disconnected the front panel USB headers from the motherboard.

I have this problem too 🙁

Specs 2 days ago:
ABIT AN8 (nforce 4)
AMD 64 3500+ CPU

Specs today:
ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe (nforce 4 SLI)
AMD 64 3500+ CPU

2 diferent mobo's ...the same problem 🙁 ....where is the problem? nf4?

help, please!!

Do the rear usb ports work? If you are using a usb keyboard? Are the proper bios legacy keyboard settings set

The rear usb ports work Ok and not using usb keyboard. The problem is "whenever I plug in an external drive (runs on it own power) and start to transfer data ...I get an error after a few min, about Windows cannot transfer data to H: and then windows auto disconnect the ext hdd for me" as Rommie2006 posted. My external drive is a Lacie 40Gb usb 2.0 (runs on it own power,ps/2, or usb power)

This happen for all 6 ports and I connect the usb's myself, no individual wires,a single connector.

Go here and check the pin arrangment (pg 8) against the ASUS board (found in the user manual). That is not the problem since they match.

Did you install the USB 2.0 drivers off the Support CD? Try to reinstall those then if that doesn't work, what PSU are you using?

Edit: nevermind I see you're using the same PSU I am. Uninstall the device from hardware manager and restart your machine. Then reinstall the driver off the disk. If that doesn't work head butt it really hard then tell us about the pain.😀
