I've been slapping together some leftover parts for a system and have run into an odd problem with my old K8N Neo 4 SLI Platinum.
Anytime I put in RAM that would either be in a dual channel configuration, or if the RAM totals 2 GB, the system won't boot. More specifically, it hangs at the memory initialization, from what I can tell via the MSI four light diagnostic thingie (memory failure / error, according to the original manual).
I can have the system POST fine with 1 stick of 1GB, 3 sticks of 512 MB... but I can't do my matching 1 GB sticks nor my non-matching 4 x 512 MB sticks.
I swapped out the sticks to see if a stick was bad, but it still boots fine... as long as it's not in a dual channel config. The RAM is DDR 400 capable (all of it), and I'd like to run it as such.
I'm also running dual 7950 GT w/512 MB RAM each in SLI mode, an AMD 64 3500+, an old HD, a single optical drive, and a 550 watt OCZ psu. I've tried running a single 7950 GT, as well as a cheap MSI FX5200 card. I've made sure the SLI toggle chip thingie was in the proper orientation for the appropriate configuration.
Since I've yet to get any feedback or suggestions, I guess my next step is to try reseating everying (again), try a different PSU, and maybe a different CPU (I have a spare Athlon 64 3200+ laying around, and even a few -barf- Semperons).
This motherboard was the core of my system for a long time, before I replaced it with something a bit more Athlon 64 x2 friendly.
