It's AOL, you're taking your life into your own hands just thinking about using that junk. ;) Seriously though I don't know what to suggest other than always keeping a hard copy of anything you think my be necessary or helpful someday. I never trust my computer to keep important information, because I usually screw it up and have to reformat. :( I think you may have no choice but to manually re-enter everything.

Easy fix...delete the file called CDtool.dll in your Windows/System32 directory (or Winnt/System32) and restart IM

Some kind of fricken trojan or something.

I have had trouble lately with that too. And I notice people keep coming and going on my buddy list an awful lot, so I think it's just something screwy. Hopefully they will fix it soon.

Well, mine started doing that crap after I went to a link that popped up about 50 IE Windows...then my IM complety flaked and wouldn't let me reload my buddy lost.

I tried to reinstall AIM and noticed that it kept registering cdtool.dll.

Tracked down the file, deleted it, and everything came back.

My brother got this too....I reinstalled and it worked but let me know what the solution was. I didn't have a problem. if it was a trojan, time for some ass kicking.

in my case, I ran the auto-upgrade, and it seemed to work just fine. I then deleted another program (see my thread here) and lost my buddy list...deleting cdtool.dll worked, but I can't say for sure whether my initial problem was caused by the upgrade or the other POS program. either way, I'm ok now, have my list backed up, and know which file to try renaming in the future
