Problem with AGP on Intel D845PEBT2 motherboard

Hi All,

I bought an used Intel D845PEBT4 motherboard a month or so back and just got the time
to shut my system down and install it.

I tried 2 different AGP cards on the board but never got any video and the system would
power down on it's own pretty quickly on a bench test.

Put a PCI video card in it and it booted up and ran like a champ.

I'm thinking the AGP slot must be shot?

Also.....

Running Windows 98se and in device manager I have a couple of exclamation marks
on
1. PCI Mass Storage Controller
2. PCI Universal Serial Bus

I ran the Intel install CD and it took care of the audio and lan drivers but these 2 items
still have exclamation marks on them.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jim

Push down really hard on the card. The AGP slot has two rows of contacts and maybe you're only down into the first row?

Thanks for the tip but the card was fully
seated and it's a working card also.

What kind of cards did you try in it? Do they work properly in other systems for sure?

The cards worked perfectly in other systems because I have used them myself
and one of them was new in the box also.

I don't have the exact model numbers in front of me but they were keyed
correctly for the Intel AGP slot and they fit perfectly.

USB must be the usb 2.0. The other might be the sata raid controller. drivers
What video card? You sure it was a 1.5v and not 3.3v card. If it's older it may be slotted for both 1.5v and 3.3v.

It's slotted for the 1.5v card and I was trying 1.5v cards in it. A 3.3v card won't fit in any way because
the slot's and the card's notches have to match and there is no way to stick a 3.3V card in the mb.

I'm surprised that the intel installation cd didn't installed the usb 2.0 drivers though.....I'm
not using the SATA raid so that may be why it's showing an exclamation mark on that pci
mass controller.

Thanks,
Jim

The mobo won't work with some older AGP cards, legacy type I think they call them in the manual. I also tried a older 4meg ATI rage 2c and did not get a video output. It worked ok when I put a ATI radeon in it. Check the cd for manual and more details on the AGP slot requirements.

Try running the intel inf again. Although the agp slot could be shot. You just need a card that's known to work in an 845 or 850 board. Did you just move your stuff from your other motherboard to this one without formating? I would format the hard drive if you did it that way.

Yep....just dropped this new intel board in place of my Asus P4B (which has the same type agp slot on it)
and ran the intel cd.

Everything works great and solid except never could get any video out of the agp card and then tried 2 more
I have on hand that work (one of them isn't that old and was still in the box) and nothing but a black screen.

I don't believe formatting the hard drive is going to make it start showing video if it won't show anything
during boot up.

How about this (shouldn't make a difference, but who knows): put in the PCI video card AND the AGP card, and boot up. Go to the Display Properties and see if it sees both video cards (there will be two monitors shown, if so). If you have a second monitor, plug it into the second card and see if it is alive, but acting as a secondary. Or switch your monitor cable to the second card at this point.

If that's the case, go into the BIOS > Advanced > Video Configuration and set the primary display to AGP rather than PCI and see if it helps. Or you can try this step first instead of booting with both video cards if you want.

When I put the pci card in I did check the bios and it was set up to display agp first but that
may be an idea. I am just about to just put a good pci card in it and not worry about the agp
slot. The board was bought used so I doubt I have any rma hope with intel.

Thanks,
Jim
