i called microsoft today a specificaly told the rep i have a system builders pack of vista ultimate 64bit and i said i got a new hard drive and was wondering if i need a new key to activate b/c i know you can only use the key once

she assured me that vista is not like xp and it will accpet my key again and there is no need for a new one....of course when i went to activate it said key already in use

there customer support is closed now so im going to have to call tomo....are they going to give me a new key?...i bought this 2 weeks ago and just got a raptor so had to clean install...are they going to give me a problem or what?

If you call they have to give you a new key or you can sew the crud out of them, because you paid for the operating system for your computer, and if your using the same computer you shouldent lose your OS. Your not installing it on a different computer just a different hard drive.

Did you try activating over the telephone yet? It's semi-automated and is open 24 hours a day, as far as I know. The activation wizard should give you the number to call.

It's probably unrelated, but I had an issue in which I suddenly "lost" my activation and had to re-activate. When I couldn't get the OS to activate for the second time, I called MS ant the techsupport person forwarded me to this URL which seemed to solve the problem.

Just go a head and run through the diagnostic process.

Yeah-I imagine an individual sueing(sewing?) Microsoft would be really successful considering the staff of lawers they have and the financial resources backing them up.

ms never killed keys with xp when people transferred them to new computers, i doubt they will with vista either. the only question they ask you on the phone is wether or not you have the same vista install key on more then one pc. thats clearly all they care about, oem license or not.
