I have 6 days left for activation...when I called the toll free 1-800 number the guy said "they've relocated and this isnt the number...and I can't activate my internet either cuz it says "according to our records, the number of times you can activate windows with this product key has been exceded"or sumthin like this...is it cuz I use the same copy of XP on my notebook and desktop?

You are supposed to buy a copy of XP for each computer you own.

are you serious?...i'm not going to spend another 100 dollars and buy a another copy...last time my notebook used its own dell branded XP and I still had this problem with this particular cd key

You use your laptop cd key on your laptop, and your desktop cd key on your desktop. They each have their own number of activations.

Not that I think you should pirate, but Ive heard that installing the same license on two computers is no problem.

If you have a XP reinstall disc laying around from a PC manufacturer like Dell or Gateway, you can use that with the serial key on the sticker located on the side of the case. The same thing happened to me, but I nicked a copy of XP Pro Corporate from my friend. The thing has like 30 licenses on it or something.

Are you serious? If you are too cheap to be legal then don't use Windows XP. Nobody is forcing you to use it. Either fork out the money and buy XP for your desktop or use linux (it's free).

BTW, the reason Microsoft starting using activation was to prevent people like you from installing one copy of XP on more than one computer.

That the general person doesn't know how to do. MS doesn't do things like Genuine check, activation, etc. To stop the knowledgable, they do it to stop the general public.
