Hi guys, I'm kinda new with this audio stuff so hoping someone can help out?

I have an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe mb and i just bought the Logitech Z680s and am confused with the connections because I don't think I"m getting the right sound.

The speakers have 3 connections colored green (front 2 spkrs), black (rear 2 spkrs) and yellow (center/sub).

I have like 5 or 6 connections on the back of my mb that doesn't have a black and it has a yellow, but it is spdif.

does anyone know which connections go to which? I tried different combos, but it never comes out right. Am I missing something here? I used the audio drivers from the mobo cd, should i d/l the new drivers? Will they fix this?

what about using digital? do i need extras if using digital?

Another question: Well, I seem to have all speakers working, but when i do a sound test using SoundStorm, it doesn't say "right surround" should i be concerned?

Go to Control Panel then Sound and Audio Devices. At the bottom of the Volume tab there's a box called "Speaker Settings". Click the Advanced button. From there, use the drop down menu to select 5.1.

Edit: Run the SoundStorm test thing again. If you aren't hearing left and right surround channels, then you still aren't in 5.1 mode.

You're getting sound out of all the speakers, but you aren't getting 5.1 sound. Is that what you're saying? You're running in stereo?

Well, before I was running 5.1 but my software doesn't recognize all my speakers although sound comes through them.

Now however, only my front 2 and sub are working. Nothing is coming out of my center or rear speakers. All my settings are on 5.1, connections same as before. Now its just running 2.1 -- IS there a problem with my software? I tried d/l new nforce drivers with no improvement.

I thought maybe its the speakers, but when I test them using the test button on the remote, they all respond.

i am definately lost and am thinking i should just return them and stick with a 2.1 (z-220)s....

Try this:

Start - Programs - Accessories - Entertainment - Volume Control

The Volume Control window may or may not have an Advanced button to click on. If it does not, then click Options - Advanced Controls. That will give you the Advanced button. Click it. Now click the check boxes to redefine your mini-jacks as Rear Speakers and Center. Then make sure you're plugged into the right jacks. You may need to reboot after doing this. Also re-check and make sure you're still set-up as 5.1 after redefining your mini-jacks. If this doesn't work then I'm out of ideas.

Whoa! Stop! Forget everything in this thread so far.

I was looking at the specs for those speakers and realized they have a digital coax input. New plan: throw the mini-jacks in the trash, get your butt to Best Buy and get a 75ohm digital coaxial Monster Cable. Your mobo has a digital coax output. Run that lone cable from your mobo to the input on your speakers. Then sit back and marvel at the sound.
