Hey all,

OK, here is the problem. I have a CD-Rom drive from a HP Pavillion 4550z, which is a TEAC CD-532E-B. I have put it in my new box, and it has been in there for about 8 months. Well, recently I had to wipe my HD. After I put ME back on, I was installing stuff, right? Well, it picked up all the CDs like normal. Then I tried to install a game off of a CR-R disk, and it didn't pick it up. The LED just blinked and when I clicked on the icon in My Computer, it asks to insert a disc into the drive. So, I thought it was the CD-R disc, which by the way has worked before. So, I tried to install another game, Tachyon. It didn't work either. These two CD's are the only two that didn't work, that I tried.
So, I figured it was the discs. So, I tried them in my parent's old Acer and they worked. So, it has to be the CD-Rom drive, right? If anybody has any advice or help, I would appreciate it greatly. This thing is driving me crazy.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Jonathan, I know that in order for a CD-ROM drive to read a CD-RW disc you need to install Roxio's UDF Reader. You might give it a try, it's pretty benign software, and it won't screw up your system. I know you said CD-R, and not CD-RW, but it's worth a shot <g>.

That's only necessary if you used packet writing software -- such as DirectCD or InCD -- to create the disc. If a CD-RW is fully "burned" in one pass like a regular CD-R, then such UDF drivers are not required to read the disc. And they're definitely not required for CD-R discs.
