heres his machine:

amd xp 1600
esc k7s5a
gf3 ti200
maxtor 20gb 7200rpm hdd
lite-on dvd(16x/48x) and cdrw(32x)
winXP Pro

he left his comp on overnight and when ge went to sign on to the internet, he couldnt dial out. so he restarted his comp and got this error during boot, along with 2 beeps:
the secondary master drive's ATAPI is incompatible, hit F1 to continue
this error is dealing with his cdrw, which has worked fine for a couple months until now. he ran a virus scan and nothing. he uninstalled the latest winxp fix and that didnt help. any one here have any idea what the problem is or what he can check....thanks...

Check the IDE cable and the IDE channel that the CD burner is using. Do this by moving unplugging the burner and just moving your HD with its IDE cable to the 2nd IDE channel... adjust the BIOS if necessary and see if you get that error. If you do not, then you know the burner is dead.
