Hey all,
We recently purchased an ECS K75SA & Duron 850 from a fellow ATech member. Anyway, this stuff was to be used in an old ATX case with a 250W power supply. We plugged a few things in (RAM, heatsink fan, video card--old nVidia TNT) and attempted to power on, but no dice. The fan would "spin" for like 1 second and then stop. Pressing the power button further would then produce no effect. We unplugged/replugged the power cord and got the same "spinning" as before. We also tried clearing CMOS and removing the mobo from the case...neither worked. Tomorrow, we'll try a newer PSU...until then, any ideas as to what might be wrong?

Thanks,
-Eric

edit: sorry...orginally had duron 866, changed to 850-my mistake.

866? If memory serves me, the duron didn't come in an 866mhz. It was even numbers like 650, 700 so on. I may be wrong.

Allready overclocked maybe? I know that ECS board needs to be hacked (bios, modded) to really o/c, so maybe that's what's up...

Just thought it looked wierd. Maybe it's just one of the usual things like HS not seated or bad RAM or something...

What your describing is normaly caused by something being grounded, I'd suggest Bread boarding the system (eg just take the CPU memory and vid card outside the case and try and get it to post)

Check to see if something's grounding out. edit: yeah, what he said  ^^ I recommend pulling the board out of the case, laying it on cardboard, and trying it that way. Also, the K7S5A is generally known for wanting a healthy 300W power supply, although with a Duron, a decent 250W may do the trick.

And yeah, there was no Duron 866. Closest model was the 850.

"We also tried clearing CMOS and removing the mobo from the case"

We already tried taking the mobo out and placing it on some cardboard...no go.

Yeah...it was the power supply that was messed up. We tried a 300W and it was fine. Thanks guys :)
