All of a sudden, out of the blue, the car started and before I could put it in drive, the engine shut off. When I tried to restart nothing happened. The dash lights are on and bright and the battery is new. No clicking noise or dimming when I turn and hold the key in the start position. I have checked the obvious connections and raddled the gear shift. Any help out there? Thanks

If it doesnt even try and turn over i would suspect a defective switch/sensor (brake pedal, or shifter,) or a computer problem.

what codes is it throwing?

well if you have a android phone you can get a bluetooth scan tool really cheap like

https://www.amazon.com/Veepeak-Blue...1484&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=obd2+scanner&psc=1

If no smartphone you can still get a scanner cheap

https://www.amazon.com/AD310-Classi...8&qid=1485211626&sr=1-4&keywords=obd2+scanner

This will be greatly helpful when trying to diagnose issues, and will usually pay for itself the first time you use it to save a trip to a mechanic and just replace a faulty sensor yourself.
