Problem with 9800 pro and opengl support?

Hello,

I just installed my new 9800 pro. I properly removed my old Nvidia drivers and used Det Destroyer and Driver Cleanup. The 9800 pro works great, but some games that support opengl won't offer me a choice to select opengl in the video setup.

Example is the Unreal tournament 2003 and 2004 demos. The only choices I have is to select D3D or software rendering. If I edit the "ini" files and change the rendering to opengl, it works fine.

Also, in the demo of Far Cry, I also do not get the choice to select opengl in the video setup.

Is this because these are demos, and they may not include proper opengl support for ATI cards? Has anyone else had this issue?

I'm using the latest win98 Omega drivers on a P4 platform running win98.

I've also tried the newest ATI drivers and same thing.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I have the full version of both far cry and ut2003/2004 and with my 9800 Pro I only have d3d/software, no ogl option. Maybe its because the game devs decided ATI cards worked much better with directx? I dunno, just a guess.

Is there any advantage to running UT in ogl?

UT 2004 is known as a DX game. In the Farcry demo you can't choose.

UT runs much better with ogl then with d3d. It's also said that Far Cry runs better under ogl.

I've never understood how the API's work. I thought that pixel shaders and all that were part of directx. If that was true though, how could they be used in openGL?

Well, with a simple "ini" file edit, it runs with opengl on a radeon just fine. In fact, it runs better then d3d on my rig.
