Problem with 9800 pro and 8x

My new 9800 pro will not let me set it to 8x in its settings. When I do, and reboot, I go back to where I set it and it's back to 0x. When I set it to 4x however and reboot, it will stay. I dont get this because my mobo is a MSI SiS 648 MAX which is AGP 8x. I looked all through the setup in bios and nothing said anything about the AGP speed being 2x, 4x, 8x, etc. My bios is Aimbios New Setup Utility Version 3.31a. Any suggestions?

Check for an updated BIOS for your mobo and try disabling FastWrites. That said, if you still can't get 8x to work, don't worry about it, there is practically no difference between 4x and 8x.

Ah ok, I dont wanna mess with bios and stuff so Ill just leave it at 4x. However, my ram is now running at DDR333 instead of DDR400. With my GF4 installed ram ran at DDR400. Ever since we installed the 9800 Pro, my comp crashes at startup if the ram is set to DDR400. Setting it to DDR333 however makes it stable. So far this card has caused me nothing but grief 😛. Drivers I have installed on it are the new 3.10 catalyst ones.

Hmm, that's puzzling. Another possibility is that your power supply is not providing enough power, but it sort o sounds like your BIOS may have reset back to Default. Were you overclocking this sytem before maybe?
