problem with 9500 softmod to 9700

in UT2K3 -2K4 and BF1942 and occassionly with COD I get problems with my card that looks like this: image
Is there a way to fix this?

Those are the breaks when you softmod.

that just means the chip on the card you have is not fully fuctional as a 9700, the whole point of the 9500 was so ati could use their chips that didn't quite make 9700s and still sell them as fully fuctional midrage cards.

so is there no way to turn off a specific feature/function/setting and keep the softmod? I thought i read something like that when people had problems with their softmodded cards.

possably you could use some tweeking tool to dissable a feature which would resolve the issue, possably even underclocking the core would do the trick. no garanties on any of that though.

thats probably because the other four pipelines you enabled aren up to scratch....thats why they were disabled and sold in a mid range card

its a r300 core except when they make them if some pipes are defective or if all the pipes are fine its jus the chip is unstable at the speeds they wanted it to run...then they stick these "not up to the task" chips in the mid range cards...so even if your 9500 had a fully functioning 8 pipelines....theres still a reason it was put in a low price card....it couldnt handle 9700pro speeds


i would recommend if u want a nice image...turn that card back to a 9500

No..
9500np = 4 pipe
9500 pro = 8 pipe
9700np/pro = 8 pipe

9500np's are usually 9700's that had defective pipelines and therefore could not be sold as 9700's. 9500 pros though, are the exact same chip as 9700's. They're on a different pcb though and only have a 128 bit bus instead of the 256 bit on a 9700.

Sure, I concede that most parts like this start off as speed binded or defect binded parts but more times than not, demand overcomes binded parts so 100% functionals end up being rebadged as the lesser. That's why MANY people were able to acheive the desired result with this mod.

Notice I said "usually." Obviously not all of them had defective pipes. But many were at least partially defective, as is the case with the op's card and therefore could not be sold as a 9700. So no it's not a wild assumption, it's what really happened.
