Problem with 2.0A retail HSF install

With the retail northwood HSF, does the HSF move around after the retention mechanism has been locked into place? Because the retention mech moves up a bit, the HSF also moves up, and I can see a tiny gap between the processor and the HSF.

Has something gone horribly, horribly wrong??

Yes, something is wrong.

There should be absolutely no spaces between the CPU and the HSF. Please re-read the instructions for installation of the HSF and make sure you did it correctly before attempting to start the computer.

ok, thanks.

Is the retention mechanism supposed to be completely secure, ie. not move at all?

Also, any idea why it went wrong? The cpu installation manual says to push down on all four clip frame corners to secure the retention mechanism hooks. It then says to close the clip levers (w/ force).

I pushed the four corners, but as I did so the locks closed automatically, without me having to manualy close the levers with force. Could it be possible that I pushed too much?
