Problem with 1996 Cavalier and Passlock

So it appears I have a problem with Passlock. My car just wouldn't start, I had a few guys helping me and nothing seemed to work. Car didn't seem to be missing power or anything. We had to unplug the battery for a few seconds to reset the system. After that, my car would start. I was browsing the web and found something called a PLJX bypass kit.

Anyone has experience with these?

P.S. If not I guess I'll carry with my a 8mm key to unbolt the battery cable every time it happens =/

IIRC the possibilities are:

Bad lock cylinder, bad instrument cluster, or bad computer.

Most likely the instrument cluster. Anyone with more GM experience want to step in and correct me?

Forgot to say the check gauges light was coming on too. Damnit I don't have money to repair this thing, guess I'll carry the 8mm around then.

Have you had the codes pulled for the car? It sounds like it should be showing something if your gauges light it coming on.

What do you mean pull the codes for the car? The check gages car just comes on when I start the car then fades. I do not know if that is important. Weird that the problem didn't happen again. Might randomly start appearing again.

Sorry I do not know a lot about cars.

If you try and start and its the theft system stopping you usually the security type light will blink or ligh tup.

The only thing I can add to what Zemmervolt said was also look at the key. I have seen some that people used so much the chip sore out enough to not work sometimes. Try another key if you have one of it does it again. Its a long shot but I have seen it a couple times.
