hey i have been using e8400 and 8800 gt for abt 5 months now but its amazing but i never observed this fact the the fps is pretty low then they shld be
al though i knew it was performing slower than expected but never bothered to fire up fraps
is the fps given below the standard fps i can expect from my present config

i posted this in the gpu section but my heart tells me that this is more relavent here dunno why :p

here are my observations
assassins creed @ 1280 x 1024 35 fps
in crowded places and when iam on a horse its like 20 fps
@ 1680 x 1080 30 fps
in crowded places its like 15 fps:(
age of empires @ 1280 x 1024 60 fps
in crowd 20 fps ~ 35 fps
in crysis @ 1280 x 1024 13 fps unbelievable :(
never managed to get into any high resource scene
in 3dmark vantage
@ 1280 x 1024 25 fps

and in 3d mark 06 for the cpu test
1 ~ 2 fps :( :( :(
because of this i feel its more of a cpu related issue

iam using a cooler master extreme power 600 watt so i think power shld be enough
andiam using a 8800 gt no sli :(
a 667 mhz 4 gb ram

so tell me what components shld i ditch or which component needs ocing or is it some thing wrong wid my components
and by the way iam using vista and the latest drivers for my gpu
and i cant ask for a replacement untill the components stop working :(

if u want i can post the specs on need for speed pro street too and even the crysis war head (soon gonna buy it) and evn the far cry2

Something is wrong. With my 8800GT and Q6600 ocd to 3.0ghz, @1440x900 you should get 40fps on high with Crysis gpu benchmark. Do you have AA turned way up? What is the CPU score on 3dMark06? One thing that is holding you back is the 667mhz memory. Can you get it to run @ 800mhz?

Memory speed won't do much (anything) significant to fps. DDR2-667 is already running 1:1 with processor fsb so just leave it alone.

Most likely this is something related to your video card. Try updating to the latest drivers & see if that improves things. Make you don't have a high level of AA forced in nTune (or in the game for that matter, heavy AA will decrease fps significantly).

Just as a benchmark, what kind of result do you get from 3dmark06?

i had 2 AA in crysis i disabled it and i got a bump of 4 fps
i have a 3d mark 06 score of 11354
and cpu score of 2754

my gpu drivers is 175.19

well my case is the perfect example of what happens when a amatuer builds a pc :((

Download and install driver 178.15 You will get a good jump in performance. Something is way wrong if you are only getting 17fps in Crysis. Set it to all high, and nothing at all should be at very high, and no AA and your monitors native resolution. Run the benchmark and let us know what you get.

Well, it's probably not your CPU, because as far as i know they either work or they don't. Never heard of one running slower...

It's probably 1 of 2 things. Either your 8800gt is underpowered, or its in a bad PCI-E slot.
Check to see if its running at PCIx16 with GPU-Z first as that's easiest. If not you'll need to put it in the proper slot, or reseat it if its in the right one. If the PCI checks out at x16 then you need to check to see if you plugged in the extra 6-pin molex connector in the back to your PSU. That cooler master 600W has probably enough amps for the card, just make sure its the higher rated amperage line that's connected to the card.

yeah i am running it in the x16 bus and i remember checking it earlier and i have checked it again it has enough amps on the 12 v rail
and i have recntly changed the board so i dont think any thing could be wrong with my slot

and i just came to knw that iam using e8400 with a c0 stepping is this stepping gud ??

Right, I know it's in the PCIx16 slot, but check with GPU-Z to make sure it's running at that. I've seen before that it won't run at that bandwidth for various reasons.

edit: it's probably what james1701 said, thermal throttling. Check temps with rivatuner, or ATItool(less accurate), and report back. If it's idling 70-80C, and load is 100C+, it's thermal throttling, and a bad card. If it's idling 50-60s and full load is 90-100, you need to ramp up the fan speed with rivatuner. The 8800gts were notorious for too low fan speed, causing the cards to overheat.

Otherwise, the only other thing I can think of is making sure you have the latest BIOS. Check CPU-Z while you're at it and make sure its running the CPU at its rated speed (keep in mind your multiplier will be lower and thus the clocks lower if you CPU is idle).

What are your cpu and gpu temperatures when playing? Maybe you are getting throttling.
