Problem while downgrading Windows 7 64bit getting iastor.sys error

I just stared trying to install Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit on 2 of my PCs by using a registry edit following these 2 examples of what I did.

I was able to get my Nvidia 790i PC to go through the process with no problems but on my main PC was able to get it to accept my Windows Pro DVD but when the system rebooted to continue the install I got the following error screen.

File /Windows`BT \Widows\system32\drivers\iaStorA.sys
status 0x0000359

Info Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing or corrupt.

I done all kinds attempted fixes but none have worked so I know the downgrade part was allowing my to try to install the new files but I cant find a way to fix this problem

I checked for any Intel updates by using update utility and found no related drivers needing update.

I was building a new Windows Pro setup from scratch and when I made it the iaStorA.sys was added through the normal install checking for it with autoruns so even more mystified why the downgrade did not work.

I going to post this now for feedback and hoping I can finish this downgrade so I can use my new Pro key or will need to buy an ultimate key somewhere.

Here are some of the links I been using TIA!

You mention downgrading Windows, but your problem involves not being able to install Windows to begin with.

Is this a fresh install? If so, let's set the 'downgrade' bit to the side for a moment.

Are you even getting Windows installed this time?

Have you installed Windows 7 on this computer before? Were there any issues? Do you need any additional drivers for the Windows installation to see you hard drive/SSD?

The downgrading means I both systems were already running Window Ultimate for some time and there had not been licensed yet.

I was just able to get Windows Pro Licenses so thats why I started doing this whole process and the systems I am using both are fine.

I dont want to buy a Windows 7 Ultimate license on top of the 2 Pro licenses I already bought as I just have the 2 PCs to use them on.

The reason for posting this thread to is specifically find out why I getting the error on my saber tooth Z77.

OK. Makes more sense. So, going by the sevenforums thread, which part are you failing at?

The threads works fine for my Nvidia 690i system and was able to reboot and go though the reinstall.

System is now running with an OEM Pro license and awaiting for Windows 10 d/l

My other system has been running unlicensed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit with no running problems.

Here is the motherboard that I built that system on
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_Z77/

This system has the problem with error once Windows has finished installing files on first reboot. See earlier post for that info.

Here is the link the problem file and I already tired a few unsuccessful attempts to fix that error.

Also There are no RAID involved in my setup and never installed and Intel RAID Drivers

Since iaStorA.sys is an Intel storage driver it is not applicable to an Nvidia chipset? Change the storage controller driver to Microsoft standard controller or else Nvidia. Obviously that is easiest while still running otherwise it requires registry editing from another OS or running a tool like DriverInjection GUI.

I should have just asked about the 1 Intel system that has the problem which is using the right drivers and getting the error while doing a repair install.

Dont know understand how DriverInjection GUI would help fix me boot error.

From skimming it seemed like two Nvidia systems but the solution may still be the same: changing to Microsoft standard controller. If a backup is not available to start over (maybe best if part way through the downgrade) or if it would be quicker then DriverInjection GUI would install the missing driver. For giggles I might first try manually copying over the expected iaStorA.sys.

I have done the same downgrade before but did not encounter this issue.

The Z77 was a pretty popular Intel board so I surprised there not been any other thread with the error code I got from doing an upgrade reinstall.

After a few more this will fix my problem attempts and failures I bought an Ultimate Key and the problem has been fixed!

I dont want to waste anymore of my time trying to fix this computer or finally trashing it beyond repair which would be bad for me.

I had tried doing a rebuild of my complicated setup from scratch and even with my rebuilding skills it was painful to get my system tweaked like it had been with all of my programs and games I have or my system.

I did become a much bigger fan of using relying on using my system restores to restore my broken fixes than I been in awhile tho!
